Foodie Friday: Juicing

Last year, husband decided to invest in a juicer. He actually did a 7 day juice cleanse. I was really proud of him as he lasted the whole 7 days. Like many appliances though, the juicer eventually got shoved into the closet and aside from pulling it out occasionally, it didn't exactly get used much. Maybe that only happens in our house?

Within the last month we decided to pull it back out and replace our coffee maker with it. Our coffee maker has been neglected since we've been using the french press more. Therefore, we thought if we replaced the coffee maker with the juicer we'd be more inclined to use it. Funny how that works. It actually has made us think to juice more since it's staring us right in the face.

So we've been trying to juice more around here. It doesn't happen daily, but we try and aim for a few times a week. We don't really follow recipes, we just kind of add things we like and see what happens. One juice in particular that we like to mix up is this carrot, apple & orange juice. We throw in a banana too for some added flavour. Here's our "recipe":

Carrot, Apple & Orange Juice {with a hint of banana}

- 2 oranges (peeled)
- 3 apples (cut into quarters, peel left on)
- 2 carrots (peeled & ends cut off)
- 1 banana (obviously, peeled) *Note: bananas do not provide much juice at all. But they do add some nice flavour and make the consistency of your juice a little bit thicker*

Start by juicing the banana on low. Next, on high speed, juice the apples, carrots & oranges (order doesn't really matter for these - just make sure to do the banana first, that way the juice of the others will push the banana out). Then you're done!

{The above makes 2 servings}

Tips:

*I like to shove the juice in the fridge immediately to chill for about 10-15min. I prefer to have mine chilled, plus while it's chilling, I clean up the mess.

*Stir the juice before you pour it into your glasses. Sometimes you'll notice layers of what you've juiced, so you want to make sure it's mixed up good. Plus, if it sits for a few minutes it tends to separate, even if you do stir it before you chill it in the fridge.

*We find that when you juice it's best if you use it up immediately, or within a few hours. It's not really something you want to make up and leave in the fridge for a day or two.

{I'm no juicing expert, these are just a few things we've learned along the way!}

We love juicing a few times a week. It's not only yummy, but it's a great way to get in some extra fruits & veggies too!

So tell me, do you have a juicer? If so what's your favourite combo? I'd love to hear so I can give it a try!

Happy Weekending, friends!
